The Darkest Day dawns for Gaza, 27 December 2008
At 11.25 a.m. today, 27th December 2008 when the Christian world is still celebrating Christmas, Israel unleashed the deadliest assault in the history of the Gaza occupation. The attack, across the already decimated strip has claimed the highest number of lives here in any single day. Tragically, again, many children are among the dead and wounded. Tuesday’s Child condemns, in the strongest possible terms this latest attack on Gaza. We consider it a crime against humanity. These people are already hungry and broken and reduced to despair. They cannot withstand an assault of this severity. As it was, hospital services here were already on their knees and daily survival was already an uphill struggle. Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Gaza, especially the many children and young people we met on our visit there earlier this year. Please sign our ONLINE PETITION for the people of Gaza. To donate to our EMERGENCY appeal, donate here » – 100 percent of your donation will go to providing humanitarian relief.

Gaza – To Hell and Back, 1st December 2008
In an attempt to share the torment of Gaza with people at home here in Ireland, North and South, Tuesday’s Child made a film there during her recent visit. The DVD was finalised today. A huge thanks to BLTV community television in the Flax Trust for making the dvd possible. The film will be screened shortly and highlights will be shown on BBC newsline over the holiday period. “The world needs to know the truth of daily life in Gaza. People in Ireland would be outraged if they knew how these people are being mistreated. If animals were treated like this in Ireland there would be a public outcry”, said a Tuesday’s Child spokesperson.
To request a copy of this film please email us at info@tuesdayschild.org.uk.

A local magician entertained and made balloon puppets and great fun was had by all. We also brought much needed diapers and healthcare supplies. The Centre, run by the Daughters of Charity is remarkable in the care and love they give these special children and young people. St Vincent's cares for 60 children and youg people between the ages of 5 - 22 yrs from a range of Jewish, Christian and Muslim backgrounds. The Centre is in need of diapers for all ages. In August 2008, Tuesday’s Child visited Gaza to meet the children we help there and to see the situation first-hand. There is great excitement as the children gather round and big smiles all round. While children here get a shoe box for Christmas, a mid-year treat is an unexpected source for great celebration. Each goody bag contains 12 things every child should have!

Tuesday's Child goes back to school again! Thursday 20th December 2007
Maria Gough, Principal of St Joseph's Primary School, Lisburn, welcomed Tuesday's Child back to her old primary school this morning. It hadn't changed at all, although it seemed a lot smaller. Tuesday's Child came to St Joseph's when she was 5 yrs old into primary 2 and it was lovely to be back in her old school. The children put on their Christmas nativity play; it was a real rock and roll version with many budding music stars in the performance. Photos were taken by 9 yr old photographer Conor. A great time was had by all. Other invited guests included representatives from a number of other charities in Northern Ireland such as Trocaire and St Vincent de Paul.

Afterwards, there was a party in Tuesday's Child old primary 3 classroom where she first learned to play the guitar and did a lot of painting...of clowns!! A number of guests remembered Tuesday's Child Mum - Oonagh. "She was very glamorous and great fun and did so much great work for St Vincent de Paul and the missions", said one of the other invited guests. "She was a wonderful Mum and full of simple goodness, I was very lucky", said Tuesday's Child. Maria Gough presented Tuesday's Child with a cheque for £100. All proceeds will go to children in Bosnia- Herzegovina.

One Country Country Spotlight: Democratic Republic of Congo... The recent civil war in eastern DRC has devastated many aspects of life and children are among those most affected. A population size equivalent to that of Ireland, north and south, died either through direct conflict or displacement. Mulongo is a school catering for about 2000 children. The school is one of many decimated during the war. It needs rebuilt and basic school supplies and a playground facility with better salaries to retain underpaid teachers. The Active Christian Evangelism (ACE) Group, lead by Dr Graham Fry, is funding the project; more funds are needed. Other areas in needs are feeding programmes, health promotion programmes and support of a new maternity hospital. Find out more about the Countries we help...
