17 Dec 2012
The Belfast charity Tuesday’s Child Following Yonder Star Christmas Appeal will send three gifts each to war-ravaged children in Syria, Gaza and Kenya this Christmas.
Each child will receive a hot lunch, a pair of shoes and a toy.

“Costs of 3 gifts vary in each area – Kenya £12, Gaza, £15, Syria £20,” explained Orla Sheehan, chairperson of Tuesday’s Child. “We hope to bring gifts to as many children as possible and bring some light and joy into the darkness of their little lives. Gifts will be distributed on the feast day of the Epiphany”

Pupils from St Mary’s Primary School, Belfast launched Tuesday’s Child Christmas Appeal today.
Primary 1, 2 and 3 pupils from the school performed a scene from their nativity play and sang carols after 1 p.m. mass and in the Grotto at St Mary’s Chapel, Belfast.

Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, shepherds, three kings and a donkey all starred in the performance.

The Mill Hill missionary priest at St Mary’s Chapel Lane, said “We are delighted to support Tuesday’s Child’s appeal for war-torn children, thanks to all who supported the appeal today. We wish you all peace, happiness and the blessings of the Nativity”.

The grotto will be open all week for anyone who wishes to come and light a candle and say a prayer for peace in the world and in the womb or to visit the crib.

One Country Country Spotlight: Democratic Republic of Congo... The recent civil war in eastern DRC has devastated many aspects of life and children are among those most affected. A population size equivalent to that of Ireland, north and south, died either through direct conflict or displacement. Mulongo is a school catering for about 2000 children. The school is one of many decimated during the war. It needs rebuilt and basic school supplies and a playground facility with better salaries to retain underpaid teachers. The Active Christian Evangelism (ACE) Group, lead by Dr Graham Fry, is funding the project; more funds are needed. Other areas in needs are feeding programmes, health promotion programmes and support of a new maternity hospital. Find out more about the Countries we help...
