International Radio Blipathon for Tuesday's Child
On Valentine's Day, 144 DJs around the world took part in a Blipathon for Tuesday's Child and children in Gaza. The blipathon was the brainchild of Dublin based social radio advocate Brian Greene, winner of the special recognition award for sound and music at the recent 2009 Irish Blog Awards. The marathon blipathon raised €1084 for children in Gaza. A Tuesday's Child spokesperson, speaking en route to the Rafah border between Egypt and Gaza said, "We are absolutely delighted that the Tuesday's Child message of love, peace and justice for every child was broadcast around the world in such an innovative way by Brian and his friends. This international blipathon represents a huge beacon of hope for the children and young people of Gaza".

Blipathon was the brainchild of Brian Greene a social radio advocate based in Dublin Ireland. Using social radio platform Blip.FM 144 DJs in all corners of the Earth got together over the world wide web on Valentines Day February 14th 2009 to share the love & open the hearts and by extension the wallets of these social DJs and their tens of thousands of listeners. The recipients of the donations would be the kids of Gaza.

Greene himself decided to do the full 24hrs non stop, starting at 00.00 Saturday morning and finishing up 24 hours later. The rest of the DJs committed anything from an hour to the whole day to help out. The simple task was to blip (play) songs of love, peace & enjoyment and along with each track asking people to go to blipathon.com and donate money to TuesdaysChild.ie using the charity’s PayPal button.

Over the course of the day in which blip went down for a total of 5 hours, we continued with audio & video linear broadcasts, a total ot 5075 tracks were played for the blipathon and £971 = €1084 = $1386 was donated. Much was learned on the day, and future blipathons are expected.

A big thanks to all the DJs & the crew at Blip.FM. Donations are still welcome at TuesdaysChild.ie

One Country Country Spotlight: Democratic Republic of Congo... The recent civil war in eastern DRC has devastated many aspects of life and children are among those most affected. A population size equivalent to that of Ireland, north and south, died either through direct conflict or displacement. Mulongo is a school catering for about 2000 children. The school is one of many decimated during the war. It needs rebuilt and basic school supplies and a playground facility with better salaries to retain underpaid teachers. The Active Christian Evangelism (ACE) Group, lead by Dr Graham Fry, is funding the project; more funds are needed. Other areas in needs are feeding programmes, health promotion programmes and support of a new maternity hospital. Find out more about the Countries we help...
